Our Physician and Team

Cynthia Villacis

Dr. Cynthia Villacis, MD

Bilingual Family Physician, Civil Surgeon and Life Coach

I completed my family medicine residency in 2002 - the same year my second baby was born! Since then, I've dedicated myself to educating my patients on how to improve their health - focusing on different aspects of lifestyle medicine and how this effects their overall health.

After working for many years in a community health center, I realized that it was impossible for me to offer the kind of care I wanted to provide to my patients in that setting - 10-15 minutes were not enough to positively influence my patients' lives.

So, in 2017, I opened my own office to be able to offer patients the time and access they deserve to better understand their medical issues. In this way, together we can develop a plan for them to implement and improve their long-term health.

I learned Spanish in 1988 when I was in Ecuador as an exchange student. It was then that I met my future husband, who is from Ecuador. This is one of the reasons why I have a personal interest in immigrant health - in addition to my other medical interests such as diabetes, mental health, and weight management.

My husband and I have called Northern Kentucky home since 1999, raising two adult children. Outside of work, I like kayaking, swimming, biking, yoga and spending quality time with my family and dog. I'm an adventurous spirit, having backpacked in the Smokies, camped in the Boundary Waters, and explored underwater world through scuba diving.

I advocate for staying physically active and embracing new experiences, regardless of one's size, as part of the journey toward improved health.

Gisselle

Bilingual Assistant

I started at Health Connections in 2023 and then came back in the Fall of 2024 after I finished my Associates Degree in Business.

I moved to Kentucky in 2017 from Puerto Rico and have since dedicated myself to helping patients from diverse backgrounds. As a bilingual professional fluent in both English and Spanish, I enjoy bridging communication gaps to ensure that all patients receive the best care possible. Passionate about continuous learning, I am always seeking new ways to enhance my skills and provide high-quality support to the community.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family - reading and knitting are activities that help me unwind and stay connected to what matters most.

Bilingual Assistant

Hello! I started at Health Connections in the Spring of 2024. I come from a background rich in cultural diversity as an immigrant. Growing up bilingual, speaking both English and Spanish, has not only enriched my personal life but has also equipped me with the ability to connect with and understand a wide range of individuals and helped me gain invaluable experience in providing compassionate care and support to patients from various backgrounds.

My journey as an immigrant has instilled in me appreciation for the importance of empathy and effective communication, especially in healthcare settings where understanding cultural nuances is paramount.

In addition to my professional pursuits, I have a deep appreciation for exploring the world around me. Traveling and discovering new cultures, places, and people are among my greatest joys in life, each journey leaves me with lasting memories and invaluable experiences.

My family holds a special place in my heart. They are my pillars of strength, providing unwavering support and love. Their presence is a constant source of inspiration and motivation.

In essence, my personal life is characterized by a profound appreciation for exploration, connection, and the enduring bonds of family. These elements enrich my life and shape my perspective, fueling my desire to embrace new opportunities and make a positive impact wherever I go.

We proudly welcome LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and people of all sizes, colors, and faiths. Se habla Español.
