Immigration Medical Exam: What You Need to Know
I'm Dr. Villacis, a family physician and USCIS Civil Surgeon authorized by the US government to conduct immigration medical exams, also known as Form I-693.
I've helped more than 900 people with their medical exams over the last 4 year so I have had a lot of experience performing these exams.
I speak Spanish and English and am able to do immigration medical exams in both languages. My husband came here on a K visa many years ago, so I have a personal interest in helping people through this process.
It's crucial to have someone authorized by USCIS do your medical exam, or it will be rejected.
The purpose of the immigration medical exam is for USCIS to identify any health issues that need attention before proceeding with the immigration process.
Health Condition Classification
USCIS categorizes health conditions into Class A and Class B. Class A includes serious concerns like active tuberculosis or untreated syphilis. Class B conditions, on the other hand, are more common issues like hypertension or diabetes. These don't necessarily hinder the immigration process, but we still need to document them.
Vaccinations and Blood Tests
USCIS also requires specific blood tests and vaccinations based on age, health status, and available records. For example, everyone over 2 years old needs a tuberculosis test, and other tests like for syphilis or gonorrhea may be necessary depending on individual circumstances.
If you don't have vaccine records, don't worry. We can conduct blood tests to check for antibodies against certain diseases. If you have the antibodies, you're already protected and may not need those vaccines. However, everyone still needs to be vaccinated against Tetanus, Polio, and Flu.
If you or your children attended school in the US, you likely received most required vaccinations. So, please bring your school shot records if possible.
